Description

World War II Group including the Guinea Gold newspaper; signed documents by Lt. Gen. Matthew Ridgway and Gen. Maxwell Taylor; a document with signatures of four Allied commanders (Doolittle, Wedemeyer, Arthur, and Fraser); and a combat Infantryman Badge. The newspaper is well-toned, but all else is very fine.

More Information:

Two copies of the Guinea Gold, Australian edition (10" x 11.5"), May 1, 1945, and August 9, 1945. This newspaper claimed to be the southwest Pacific's most bombed newspaper.

 

The typescript of the "Instrument of Surrender", one page, 8.5" x 11", Tokyo Bay, September 2, 1945, signed by Gen. James H. Doolittle, Gen. A. C. Wedemeyer, Admiral Arthur W. Radford, and Admiral Bruce Fraser.

 

Gen. Matthew B. Ridgeway typed letter signed, one page, 8.5" x 11", n.p., December 26, 1950, "Text of Eighth Army General Order, Assuming Command". Boldly signed.

 

Two copies of an SHAEF top secret outgoing message from Dwight Eisenhower stating, "The mission of this Allied Force was fulfilled at 0241, local time, May 7th, 1945." One copy is signed by Maj. Gen. M. B. Ridgway, the other copy is signed by Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor.

 

One Combat Infantryman Badge, 3.75" x 2".
