"Stonewall" Jackson War-dated Endorsement, Alongside Endorsements by Generals Iverson and Hill

Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson War-Dated Endorsement Signed on verso of a letter sending recommendations for promotions. A letter from Benjamin Wade, 7.5" x 9", Headquarters 1st NC Troops, December 21, 1862. In part: "I have the honor to recommend for your approval the names of Lt. Col. Thomas Ruffin 1st NC Troops for the position of Colonel of the regiment and Capt Henry E Coleman of Granville Co. NC for Lt. Colonel. 1st Sgt. John Bomery as 1st Lieut in Company G, 2nd [Sgt] William D. Benkley..."

General Alfred Iverson writes a lengthy endorsement approving all of the promotions and signs with rank on December 21, 1862. General Daniel Hill adds his endorsement beneath Iverson's: "The recommendation of Lt. Col Ruffin is most cordially approved. Capt. Coleman being out of the field & absent from battle, it would be a great crime to promote him. [signed] D.H. Hill Maj. Genl."

Jackson adds his endorsement in the third column, "Dec. 22, 62. Respectfully forwarded. T.J. Jackson M Genl."

Condition: Scattered ink stains, with paper loss affecting top line Jackson's endorsement. One mounting remnant on verso. Jackson's signature is a bit light, but remains very legible.
