Description
Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson Autograph Document Signed "T. J. Jackson." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Mexico City, May 20, 1848. Jackson, as acting assistant quarter master following the end of the Mexican War, is here acknowledging receipt from Captain T R George four "King Bolts," four "Wagon Tongues," one "Comb," and one "Horse Brush." Damage along the left edge and at the upper right corner does not affect the text.Before he gained the moniker "Stonewall" at First Manassas during the Civil War, young Thomas Jackson was a lieutenant in the 1st U.S. Artillery Regiment serving in Mexico. Serving from 1846 until war's end in 1848, Jackson saw action at the Battles of Contreras, Chapultepec, Mexico City, and the Siege of Veracruz.
