Description
Sherman's March to the Sea: Two Items. (1) Captain Lorenzo D. Myers Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7.75" x 10", August 1, 1864, Atlanta, Georgia, Army of the Cumberland, "Headquarters". (2) "Inventory & Inspection Report of Unserviceable Camp and Garrison Equipage" listing items (knapsacks, canteens, etc.), all in "worn-out" condition. One page, 15.5" x 10", January 5, 1865, Savannah, Georgia. Both fine.More Information:
Myers' letter notifies Lt. Col. L. C. Easton that he has "been on the Staff of Brig. Genl. Wood . . . Dept. of the Cumberland". Major General William T. Sherman invaded Georgia in 1864 with the help of the Army of the Cumberland. During Sherman's march to the sea, Atlanta was captured on September 2 and Savannah was captured on December 22.
