Description

Robert E. Lee: Autograph Letter Signed [ALS] Dated 1853. 7.5" x 9.5" stampless cover written by Lee while serving as Superintendent of West Point. He addresses the Rev. William T. Sprole. In full: "Some of the residents on the Point have applied to me for permission for the Revd. Mr. Gibson to have divine Service in the Chapel at 12 AM on two days in the week during lent. Before granting it I think it proper to enquire whether the Chaplain has any objection." Dated February 10, 1853. Attractively matted and framed to an overall size of 22.5" x 20" with an engraved portrait and caption card. A very clean example.
