Description
Major General George Thomas Carte de Visite Signed "Geo H Thomas/Maj Genl USA." 2.5" x 4", New York; no date. A seated vignette bust portrait of General Thomas in uniform. Signed at the bottom of the card. With a Brady & Co., New York backstamp.George Thomas (1816-1870) served with distinction throughout the war and was a principal commander in the Western Theater. He earned several nicknames including "The Rock of Chickamauga," "The Sledge of Nashville," and "Slow Trot Thomas," the latter acquired as a consequence of his slow, deliberate nature of command. While he is sometimes overlooked in the history books, some scholars have argued that he was perhaps the most talented general in the Union army.
Condition: Minor toning and foxing. Boldly signed.
