Description

John S. "Rip" Ford Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7 7/8 x 10 inches, San Antonio; September 6, 1890. Ford, a doctor, lawyer, newspaper publisher, Presbyterian Church Sunday School teacher, and Texas Ranger, writes to Captain John J. Dix, Jr., a former Texas Ranger under his command during the Civil War. In part:

"In order to decide a doubt I send you the extracts about which we conversed while you were here...If you have copies already please direct these to some officer who was of our command during the times specified...Insist on the party addressed to be as laconic as possible; if the letters are long they will not be read by the people. But be sure to answer yourself, and don't delay." Signed, "John L. Ford."

Condition: Lightly toned with smoothed folds. Rough left edge where integral page was removed. Separation at the center fold resulting in a bit of loss, not affecting text. Light ink offset where letter was folded. Docketed in pencil on verso.
