Description
Irvin McDowell, Two Documents Signed During Mexican War. First is an Autograph Document Signed, Orders No. 10, issued by command of General Wool. One page of a bifolium, 8" x 10", Headquarters at San Antonio, August 25, 1846. An order stating that surgeon Edward B. Price "having reported to the General Commanding for orders, is assigned to duty at Head Quarters."The second is a manuscript order signed, one page, 8" x 6.25"; issued at Head Quarters near Saltillo, January 29, 1847. General orders no. 203 assigning of various surgeons to specific regiments: "Surgeon Price is appointed Medical Director. Assistant Surgeon Leech is assigned to the 2nd Regiment of Illinois Volunteers; and Dr. Wilkinson is attached to Major Warren's command."
Irvin McDowell served as General John Wool's aide de camp in the Mexican War and later rose to the rank of Major General in the Union Army during the Civil War.
Condition: Usual mail folds, light toning at edges and along folds. Some weakness has occurred at folds. Second document (January 29, 1847) has slight chipping at edges. Overall very fine.
