Description

George Meade Autograph Letter Signed "Geo. G. Meade." Three integral pages, 5" x 7.5", Philadelphia, August 4, 1870, to Brevet Major General Thomas Ruger regarding an officer in Ruger's regiment. He asks Ruger if he can "tell me any thing of 1st Lt. Carroll H. Potter of your regiment? Circumstances, which I can not at present disclose have caused me to desire information on the subject of this officer...his personal character social & professional." With original transmittal envelope. Folds. Else very fine.

He says he met him in the streets of Philadelphia and "he spoke in the warmest terms of your kind attentions." He inquires how things are in Atlanta and asks "Is Mrs. Ruger with you this summer? If so please remember me most kindly to her - also to any of my old friends in Atlanta..."
