Description

George A. Custer Signed Envelope. Measuring 5.5" x 3", Custer has addressed this envelope to his wife, in full: "Mrs Genl Custer / Monroe / Mich." The envelope is postmarked September 5 from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, where he and the Seventh U.S. Cavalry were stationed from 1871 and 1873. A three cent stamp is affixed to the upper right corner. There is some staining along the right edge and what appears to be part of a fingerprint just below "Monroe."
