Confederate General Patrick Cleburne Clipped Endorsement Signed. Excised from a larger document to an overall size of 3.5" x 1.75", Gen. Cleburne has signed his approval from the headquarters of Cleburne's Division, dated April 19, 1863. One spot of very light staining, else fine.

Patrick Cleburne (1828-1864), a native of Ireland, had previously served in the British Army before immigrating to the United States. He joined a Confederate militia group as a private, but was soon elected captain. The unit soon joined the 1st Arkansas Infantry (later designated the 15th Arkansas) and was elected colonel. He was promoted to brigadier general in March 1862 and major general that December. He led his men in the Battles of Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and others. At the Battle of Franklin, November 30, 1864, he was shot and killed while advancing on the Federal line.
