Comg.," 8.5" x 8.25" on Department of the Gulf letterhead, New Orleans, October 11, 1862 concerning the location of "the letter book of Major Andrews is in a blue box in my office at Lowell..." Butler was military commander of Union-occupied New Orleans and was universally disliked by the population of the city for his authoritarian policies... behavior for which he was nicknamed "Beast" Butler. Light creases, but otherwise clean and bright. Accompanied by COA from PSA/DNA.
