Benjamin Butler Civil War Signed Letter War dated manuscript letter signed, "Benj. F. Butler Maj. Genl. Comg.," 8.5" x 8.25" on Department of the Gulf letterhead, New Orleans, October 11, 1862 concerning the location of "the letter book of Major Andrews is in a blue box in my office at Lowell..." Butler was military commander of Union-occupied New Orleans and was universally disliked by the population of the city for his authoritarian policies... behavior for which he was nicknamed "Beast" Butler.
