Description
Albert Sidney Johnston Document Signed "A. S. Johnston." One partially-printed page, 12.75" x 14.5", Fannin County [Texas], May 25, 1844. Johnston signs as a witness to a Republic of Texas land deal between Thomas A. Dagley and Simeon K. Woodroe in the amount of $1,217. Docketed on the verso.Johnston (1803-1862), a veteran of the Texas Revolution, was appointed Texas secretary of war by Texas President Mirabeau Lamar in 1838. As a Confederate general during the Civil War, he was killed at the Battle of Shiloh. Waterstaining at the edges, which are chipped in places. Separation along the folds have been archivally repaired.
