[Revolutionary War]. Benedict Arnold Autograph Document Signed "B. Arnold Col." One page, 7.5" x 9.25", n. p. [Quebec City, Canada], January 19, 1776. Still loyal to the rebels, Arnold, who was recovering from a wound suffered three weeks before during a failed assault on Quebec City, was laying siege to the city when he wrote this pass, in full: "The bearer Capt. Mott is Sent with the, Cariloles to take Care of the Money, Baggage, &c, which he is Ordered to Deliver, some officer of the Garrison By Order of the General." Areas of light foxing and smoothed folds. Light ink bleedthrough from docketing on the verso. Letters from Arnold during his time in Canada are very uncommon and make this an especially enticing piece.The siege of Quebec City continued for Arnold until April, where he was replaced by General David Wooster. Wooster was only briefly in command as he was almost immediately relieved by General John Thomas. The American forces were forced to retreat back across the border in July with arrival of British reinforcements. Though he failed to take Quebec City, Arnold was promoted to brigadier general for his part in reaching the city.
