Description
[George Meade]. Major General Andrew A. Humphreys Autograph Letter Signed "A. A. Humphreys." One page, 5" x 8", "Camp of Head Qrs. Army of Potomac," August 8, 1863, to General Samuel W. Crawford, Commanding 5th Corps,regarding the sword presented to Meade for his heroic leadership during the Battle of Gettysburg. With old smoothed fold creases.More Information:
The sword was presented to General George Meade by the officers and men of the Pennsylvania Reserves. In the letter, General Crawford is being informed that Meade will accept the sword at Crawford's convenience. The presentation was memorialized in a Harper's Weekly article.
