[Thomas Edison]. Charles Lorenzo Clarke Original Drawing Signed. One page on The Edison Electric Light Co. letterhead , 5 5/8 x 8 7/8 inches; New York; January 16, 1882. Longtime associate of Thomas Edison, Charles Clarke sketches in ink, a "Diagram and Description of Edison's Electrical Pressure Indicator." Signed, "Chas. L. Clarke" below drawing.

Clarke was deeply involved in the technical aspects of Edison's projects, and was present when Edison opened the Pearl Street Station in New York, the world's first electric generating plant in 1882. Also known as the pressure gauge or voltmeter, the electrical pressure indicator was a device used to measure electrical potential difference (voltage) within an electrical circuit. This was a crucial tool for the Pearl Street Station, helping maintain stable and reliable power distribution to lower Manhattan.

Condition: Flattened folds, and light overall toning. Light thumbsoiling at bottom left edge, and pencil notation at top left corner of recto.
