Horace Greeley (2) Autograph Letters Signed. Includes:

Horace Greeley Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4 ½ x 7 inches (sight), New York; September 22, 1856. A letter addressed to "J.A.C" recommending "Wm. E. Creanes" for a position at the Bank of New York. In part: "I desire to say that I have known Mr. Creanes several years and esteem him a thoroughly honest, faithful, competent man." Signed "Horace Greeley." Framed with an engraving of Greeley to an overall size of 14 ¼ x 24 ½ inches.

Horace Greeley Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 5 x 8 inches (sight), New York; May 5, 1866. A letter to Prince Leopold, son of Queen Victoria, sending well wishes and citing his own origin and accomplishments. He writes: "A farmer's son of Scotch-Irish stock by birth, a hunter by trade, and an editor by original interest and life long application, congratulations Prince Leopold on the steady progress made by Christendom during the writer's half-century of observation, and expresses his confident hope that the Prince will witness, during the ensuing half century still greater goodness and beneficient meditations." Signed "Horace Greeley." Framed to an overall size of 10 x 12 ¾ inches.

Condition: Not examined out of frame. Both letters have visible flattened folds. 1856 letter has toning with a small stain near the date. 1866 letter has light toning with stray staining and a hole above New York Tribune letterhead. Pencil notations on recto. Both frames have wear and scuffing.
