Description

Clement X Manuscript Papal Briefs (2). Two papal briefs, written on a single bifolium, 7" x 9.25", circa 1675, written in Italian. Of particular note, on page three, are Clement X's remarks addressed to the Archbishop of Lyons.

Born Emilio Altieri, he succeeded Clement IX in 1670 at the age of 80. He was Italian and likely a native of Rome, who had been made a Cardinal by the preceding pontiff. Cardinal Paluzzi Altieri, his cardinal-nephew, had much of the chief control of affairs in this pontificate, due to Clement X's age.

Condition: Lightly toned throughout, with usual mail folds. Bottom right corners have been folded. Staining from paper clip and annotations in pencil from a previous collector on verso.
