Description

Samuel Dexter Autograph Document Signed "Saml. Dexter". One page, 7.5" x 5", mounted to a backing sheet, no date present, Shortham, New Hampshire, in ink. This legal document concerns the case of one Edward Burleigh of Shortham, New Hampshire. Burleigh's lawyer, Samuel Dexter, appears to be making the case that his client is the case of mistaken name identity. Samuel Dexter (1761-1816) enjoyed a varied public service career serving both in Congress and in cabinet positions. He was the third Secretary of the Treasury and fourth Secretary of War, serving under President John Adams. The document displays the usual fold creases, is slightly toned with age, else very good condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.
