Description

Pat Garrett: Autograph Letter Signed "P. F. Garrett" with signed transmittal envelope. Two pages, 6" x 9.5", on "Office of Spruance & Finley" letterhead, Arlington [Texas], November 4, 1891, to his wife, in full:

"We will leave home tomorrow with the Horses for Eastern Texas. I have failed to sell in this country. have got rid of 14 head here traded most of them for one very fine Horse that I will ship home unless I can sell him for $300 I will go with stone 3 days. then I will come home you meet me at the train Saturday night with the buggy. I will be there sure Saturday night or Sunday If I am not there Saturday night come again Sunday night I have not heard a word from home since I left am very anxious about you all. was dreaming last night about, Annie, thought I was dressing her.

"Love to you and the children I enclose Photograph taken when I was 22 years old one of my old Lady friends gave it to me."

In 1890, Garrett had run unsuccessfully for sheriff of the newly created Chaves County, New Mexico. Following his defeat, he moved his family to Uvalde, Texas where he would spend several years raising horses.

Original transmittal envelope is also signed, though it is addressed to "Mrs. P. F. Garrett."

Smoothed folds. Slight smudging of the ink. Else fine.
