Description
Martin Luther King Jr. Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8.75" x 11", on Southern Christian Leadership Conference letterhead, Atlanta, February 25, 1963, to Mr. Charles D. Wherry thanking him for an invitation to speak to CORE, the Congress of Racial Equality, explaining that he does not limit his speaking engagements to church or religious groups. Revealing that his calendar is already booked for the next nine months, Dr. King declines the invitation. Two months later, King would travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for what is now called the Birmingham Campaign, a mass protest consisting of marches and sit-ins intended to provoke arrests so as to draw the attention of the media.
