More Information:

William Henry Harrison, the ninth president of the United States, was the first president to die in office. Harrison had served 32 days in office before his death on April 4, 1841. The poem, originally part of a correspondence between Jonathan Steele and his relative William Steele, was written just days after Harrison's death and laments the nation's loss. His death created a brief constitutional crisis over questions about presidential succession.
