Description

John Wilkes Booth: Oversized Autograph. Fragment of a John Wilkes Booth ALS, double-glazed. We believe it was written to Junius Brutus Booth, Jr. who had a daughter named Mary through his second marriage to Harriet Mace. It reads: "...like someone else, is one of those yearly writers. Heard from Mother yesterday. God bless her. She complained of your silence. She and the rest are well. How is dear little Mary. Have you ever told her that she has a uncle John. I guess not, however she will know it before... [on verso] Your Loving Brother J. Wilkes Booth." Booth's mother resided with Edwin Booth whose daughter was named Edwina. There is some discoloration, as shown, along one side. The Booth signature measures 4 ¾" across and is possibly the largest example extant.
