Description
John Henry Selman, Signed Document, a warrant for the arrest of J. L. Gomez, 6.5" x 7.75", June 27, 1894, El Paso, Texas. Attractively framed (14" x 23" overall) with a picture of Selman and three poker chips. The document is fine. There is some minor damage to the frame.'Old John' Selman (1839-1896) was an American frontier character who worked both sides of the law. He was an outlaw in the John Larn gang in Shackelford County, Texas. Selman barely escaped with his life after vigilantes killed Larn. Old John later served as a city constable in El Paso, Texas, where he killed two notorious gunmen, Bass Outlaw and the deadliest killer in Texas history, John Wesley Hardin. Proving the adage that he who lives by the six-shooter will die by the six-shooter, Old John was shot and killed by George Scarborough in El Paso. He is buried somewhere near his famous victim, Wes Hardin, in an unmarked grave.
