Description
John Franklin, Arctic Explorer, Signed Check Scarce partly-printed document signed, "John Franklin," 7.5" x 3.25", London, May 1, 1829. A check for [British pound symbol] 6-6 payable to the Geological Society. Punch cancellation just grazes top of "F" in signature, otherwise quite clean and boldly signed. Franklin died in 1847 while in search of the Northwest Passage. His two "ghost ships" were never found, but three bodies of crew members were discovered in 1984 frozen in the ice.
