Description

John Brown Signature. Signed: "John Brown." This lot features a clipped bank check signed by the famous "Old John Brown of Osawatomie," the bank seal is visible in red ink near the signature. He is best known for his failed raid on Harper's Ferry. Brown was a staunch abolitionist and his efforts, though futile at the time, helped to spark the Civil War and the ultimate freedom of slaves in America. He was tried and executed for his failed attempt. The signature is in Fine condition; the paper is slightly cut up from cancellation stamps, but the signature is untouched and very clear! From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
