Description

James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok: One of the Rarest of Old West Autographs. A fine, bold cut signature of this iconic Western figure. A veteran Army scout who served with Generals Custer and Sherman, Hickok is best remembered as a gunfighter, heavy drinker, and profligate gambler. His fame was assured by his dramatic death at Deadwood, South Dakota in the summer of 1876: he was shot in the back during a card game, famously holding a hand of aces and eights, known to this day among poker players as the "Dead Man's Hand."

The signature is a large, very clear one reading "Br. J.B. Hickok." Aside from a trivial light stain at the very end of the signature, it is in virtually unimprovable condition. The signature cut is elegantly mounted and custom framed along with a sepia image of Hickok. 12" x 16" as framed.

It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from PSA/DNA, signed by six respected autograph authenticators, including John Reznikoff of University Archives. Only a few dozen authentic Hickok autographs are believed known, making it one of the most sought after of all American signatures.
