Description

Harvey Cushing Signed Photograph. Wearing a medical gown and gloves, Harvey Cushing (1869-1939), the father of modern neurosurgery, is seen in this 13" x 10.5" sepia toned photograph (the image itself measures 9.25" x 6.75") from the waist up and in profile, writing in a large ledger held in his left hand. He has signed his name along the lower edge of the image near the lower right corner. An early pioneer of brain surgery, he was the first to describe the disease named for him, Cushing's disease, whereby the pituitary gland releases an excess of adrenocorticotropic hormone due to a tumor or other growth.

Condition: The left edge is rolled inward slightly at the lower left corner, else fine.
