Description

Babe Ruth Inscribed Photograph Signed, circa 1932. This marvelous 8" x 10" silver gelatin print of the Bambino was taken at Wrigley Field by Chicago photographer George Burke. Ruth has inscribed the photograph at lower right: "To my good friend/Howard Rawton/From/Babe Ruth." Silvered throughout the darkened areas of the photo. Smudging of the "n" in "Rawton," presumably during Ruth's signing. Photograph is bent at the lower right corner, but not affecting the inscription or signature. With COA's from JSA and PSA.

The presence of bunting hanging from the upper deck at the upper edge of the picture indicates that this photo was likely taken during the 1932 World Series, being the only time bunting was present when the Yankees played in Chicago between the years 1931 and 1934 (the uniform the Babe is wearing was worn on the road only during the years 1922 through 1926 and 1931 through 1934. Burke did not become the official photographer for the Cubs and White Sox until 1929, placing this picture between the years 1931-34).

During the fifth inning of game three, October 1, Ruth made his famous "called shot." Ruth purportedly pointed out to the center field bleachers and, on the next pitch, hit a home run straight to center field.
