Description
Rabindranath Tagore Signed Photograph. One black-and-white photograph, 3.25" x 5.25", no place, no date. Signed, "Rabindranath Tagore." Mounted and framed to an overall size of 6" x 7.5".Tagore is credited with reinvigorating Bengali literature, music, and art throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Tagore began writing poetry at a young age and published his first collection of poems at the age of sixteen. Throughout his career, Tagore actively supported an independent India and denounced the British Raj. In 1913, Tagore became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature for his English translation of Gitanjali. Known as Song Offerings in English, the work centered around themes of devotion and is now part of the UNESCO Collection of Representative Works.
Condition: Photograph silvered along the edges. Slight toning around the signature. Not examined outside of the frame. Minor scuffs to the frame.
