Description

Jules Verne Autograph Letter Signed. One page with integral blank, 5" x 8", in French, Amien, June 29, 1893. Writing to an unknown recipient, the famous science fiction author talks about his latest work: "I hasten to answer your very kind letter by sending you a few lines as you wished. I am writing you in my native language, because - even if you think so, - I know but very little English. I see that you have scrutinized the greatest part of Extraordinary Voyages. That alone is already considerable. And I however have not finished it. But, at my age, 65 years old - will I have the time to finish a work that in my thoughts should comprise the whole earth and neighboring universe - outlined in the form of a novel? A goal depending on God. Accept my thanks dear Sir for the understanding you show in your letters. Let me count you among the unusual friends of mine in America..." Verne published a total of fifty-four novels in his "Extraordinary Voyages" series between 1863 and his death in 1905, with a further eight being published posthumously until 1915. Smoothed folds; small binding holes in upper left corner.
