Description

Jack Ruby Inscribed Signed Jailhouse Drawing. One hand-drawn sketch, 7" x 4", Dallas; 1965. A geometric drawing in pencil. Ruby inscribes and signs the work on the verso, writing, "To Jesse Walker Best always, 1965 / Jack Ruby." Encapsulated by PSA/DNA to an overall size of 10" x 6.5".

On March 14, 1964, Ruby was convicted of murder with malice and sentenced to death for the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald. While incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail, Ruby produced a number of geometric sketches. Ray Pennington, Ruby's bodyguard in prison, reported that the former club owner drew frequently as a means to cope with nervousness or aggravation.

Condition: Creased along folds and smudging to verso. The case itself has several scratches and the interior seal is warped.
