Description

August Derleth. Printed Poem Signed "August Derleth". Np, nd.
Printed in two colors on heavy card stock, measuring 4.25 x 5.25 inches. The poem is titled "Merry Christmas Happy New Year," and reads: "Over corncrib, wood, the pasture gate, the year's last moon comes up, great as a pumpkin in the field. Down wagon-ruts, and stubble, and the brown cornshock where rabbit's track leads soundlessly the fox to haystack edge, slants in the winter night the full moon's clear, impartial light, betraying deer mice out to feed on seeds still prisoned in the pods of weeds. Under the mounting moon, beneath the snow, seed, bud and rootlet stir to grow; frogs, katydids and crickets sleep, the voice and pulse of April keep." Fine condition.
