Description

Richard Wagner Signed Sheet with Notes. One page, 6 x 5 1/4 inches (sight), no place; no date. Matted and framed to an overall size of 9 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches. Signed, "Richard Wagner." With brief notes in German, related to binding essays on his opera-in-progress, Parsifal. His notes read, in large part (in translation): "Individual essays / Parsifal / Half-French: red with matching paper."

Parsifal, Wagner's final opera, took the composer over twenty-five years to complete. It finally debuted in July 1882, just six months before Wagner's death in February 1883. For the first twenty years of its existence, the opera was staged only at the Bayreuth Festival House in Bayreuth, Germany, as Wagner composed the performance exclusively for its stage. Even today, the work remains a centerpiece of the annual Bayreuth Festival.

Condition: Not examined out of frame. Lightly toned with a single flattened horizontal fold. Light creasing at the top corners.

Provenance: Charles Hamilton Autographs, with his label on the verso of the frame.
