nobleman.Beethoven writes in full:
"Your Excellency!
I beg you very much so, if it is only possible for you, to grant me the favor, and for you to visit me this afternoon,
Beginning at 3 PM until 5 PM, also half-an-hour to 6, I could await you, if you would just kindly determine it, when I could for sure count to see you during this time, and as well petition you to bring along the letter from Ries
Hoping for a benevolent accommodation to my request
I remain with esteem
Your Most Devoted
Beethoven"
Born into a musical family in Bonn, Germany, Ferdinand Ries was taught piano as a child by Beethoven, who fostered and encouraged his talent. In October 1801, Ries was sent by his father to Vienna where Beethoven took him under his wing. Ries became Beethoven's "right hand man," assisting and dealing with publishers, helping with the practicalities of composition, and finding lodging for the legendary composer as his hearing declined. Ferdinand Ries became a prolific composer, leaving nearly 180 works, including operas, symphonies, chamber music and oratorios. As a member of the Philharmonic Society of London, Ries tirelessly promoted Beethoven's music and was instrumental in commissioning what would become Beethoven's 9th Symphony. In 1838, due to Ries being one of Beethoven's closest associates, he published a collection of reminiscences, co-written by Beethoven's friend Franz Wegeler. In beautiful condition. Perfect for display.
Condition: Minimal spotting with light mounting-trace on blank page four of bifolium.
