[Civil War]. List of Casualties Sustained by Brigadier General Randall L. Gibson's Brigade at the Battle of Nashville. Booklet with twelve pages on six leaves, 12.25" x 8", Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee; December 15-17, 1864. This fascinating document records a detailed list of casualties sustained among General Gibson's Brigade during the closing days of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign and written immediately after the Battle of Nashville. Each entry includes the soldier's first initial and surname, rank, and regiment, followed by a check for "Killed", wounded on a scale of "Slightly" to "Mortally", or missing, and closed with any additional remarks. This fascinating document represents one of the few surviving Confederate records of losses for the battle; 388 men were injured or lost in total. Docketed with General Gibson's name signed in the hand of an aide.In one of the final large-scale engagements west of the coastal states, the Confederate Army of Tennessee under the command of Lt. General John Bell faced off with the Union Army of the Cumberland under Maj. General George H. Thomas over the course of two days. Drawn out by strategy, delays in supplies, and sheer determination, the Battle of Nashville stands as one of the most significant victories achieved by the Union Army over the course of the war and ultimately spelled the end of the Confederate Army of Tennessee and the end of General John Bell's military career.
Condition: Thread binding booklet somewhat frayed with leaves loose but all present. Minor chipping to edges. Light scattered foxing and soiling. Minor worming to the last leaf just touching text.
