Description

Garth Williams. Three Preliminary Drawings for Illustrations in Laura Ingalls Wilder's On the Banks of Plum Creek, 1953. Pencil on tracing paper. Three sheets, two measuring approximately 9 x 6 inches (one in landscape), and one measuring 9 x 11.75 inches. Includes two versions of the frontispiece/title page opening, with fold down the middle by the artist, and a slightly different version of the illustration of the covered wagon and dugout house that faces page one. All are signed in full by Garth Williams. All generally fine. From the Estate of Garth Williams.

There are no finished original illustrations from On the Banks of Plum Creek. The finished drawings were lost by the publisher, and Garth Williams never received them back. The rough sketches and preliminary drawings that we are offering in this auction are all that exist.
