[Harper's] Original Civil War Sketches: Rebel Ironclads. Pair of matted pencil sketches done by artists in-the-field, likely for publication in Harper's Weekly. The first measures 14" x 5" and depicts three Confederate ironclads patrolling the waters outside of Fort Darling (Drewry's Bluff). It is captioned: "Fort Darling and the Rebel Iron Clads on the James River 7 miles below Richmond from a sketch by an officer made on a reconnaissance up the river." Loss to lower left corner, as shown. The second sketch measures 10.75" x 7.5" and shows a similar scene, captioned: "Rebel 'Turtle' Ram, Gun Boat, recently launched at Savannah, Georgia From an [balance illegible]."
