Description

John Adams: Inaugural Powder Horn. Decorative carvings include a right-facing profile portrait of John Adams, the date "1797" appearing below, and an eagle and the word "Liberty" above. Other elements pictured are agricultural and hunting motifs, featuring a hunter with his dog, a deer, rabbit, corn, trees, and a paired sickle and scythe. The length of the horn measures approximately 11", with the widest area of the base being 3.5". The wooden base is holed (as made).

Condition: Expected wear is present, with light scratching throughout. The bottom of the base has a white mark and multiple minor abrasions. There is a chip in the horn where the spout and horn meet, with another at the rim of the base.
