Description

Very Early Buffalo Hunt Lithograph. Entitled "Hunting the Buffaloe," this hand-colored framed lithograph measures 12.5" x 17". The foreground shows a mounted Indian brave who has shot one arrow into a buffalo and prepares to finish him off with another. Five other mounted Indians appear in the background, doing likewise. The print was published in Philadelphia by E. C. Biddle and "Drawn Printed and Coloured at I. T. Bowen's Lithographic Establishment No. 94 Walnut Street." The artist has included his initials, AH, on one rock. The print was likely inspired by the paintings of Catlin and Bodmer which were made around this time. The print has wide margins with scattered foxing.
