Description

World's Fair Mechanical Bank. Measuring 8.25" x 6.5" x 3.25", this bank was made by J & E Stevens Co. and designed by Charles A. Bailey, circa 1893. A coin is placed in the slot at the feet of Columbus. When the lever is pressed, the coin disappears and Native American Chief suddenly leaps from concealment in the log, extending the pipe of peace. Both of the legs and feet of Columbus have been repaired. Some original gold paint remains. Very interesting design with plenty of detail.
