Mark Catesby. Two Prints: Centipede. [and:] Green Turtle. Two hand-colored copper engravings from The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands (London: 1731-1743). Both generally very good.

More Information:

Mark Catesby (1682-1749). This lot includes: Scolopendra/Centipede. General toning to paper. Dampstaining to left side, with some intrusion into image area; some thumb-soiling at bottom and lower right margins. A couple of short tears along edges. One short tear, approximately half an inch long inside the platemark, repaired with adhesive on the reverse. Left side shows binding edge. 14.25 x 20.25 inches. [and:] Testudo marina viridis/Green Turtle. Mild toning to paper. Small chip to top edge; pucker to top right corner. A couple of faint stray marks inside the platemark. Bottom of sheet shows binding edge. 20.5 x 14.25 inches. Both prints are on watermarked laid paper, and both prints have light penciled notations.
