John James Audubon. Black Skimmer or Shearwater - Plate 248 (Bien Edition). Chromolithograph, dated 1860. Very good condition.More Information:
Chromolithograph by Julius Bien, with some hand-coloring, dated 1860; from the double elephant folio reprint edition of Audubon's The Birds of America (New York: 1858-1860). General toning to paper, with tears inexpertly repaired on reverse. Dampstaining along top edge. Sheet has been substantially trimmed (Bien plates generally measure approximately 40 x 27 inches before binding). 29.25 x 23.5 inches.
(Plate was mis-numbered by Bien - the correct plate number should have been number 428.)
