Description

1800s Japanese Woodblock Print illustrating the Japanese stylized concept of the appearance of Western European people. A 19" x 13.5" print showing a steam-powered ship, several officers, sailors, and a black man. These images are remarkably similar to drawings the Japanese made of Admiral Perry on his opening U.S. visit to Japan; this present print possibly pre-dates that period. Generally very good condition with old file folds, some light soiling, and edge wear; still very displayable.
