Description

19th Century Fitted Wooden Boxes. 2.75" x 3.5" hinged box with velvet fitted interior, possibly made to house an 1.75" medal. Sold together with a wooden marquetry box (7" x 3.75" x 3.5") with a fitted silk and velvet interior housing four perfume or scent bottles, each with a hand-colored scene of Paris on the lid.

These items belonged to the immediate family of Confederate provost marshal Cornelius Boyle. They have descended through multiple generations to our present consignor. This lot was consigned together with lots 43564-43569 and 43574 in this auction, as well as several Boyle family archives previously sold in Manuscripts Auction 6184 (held on October 19, 2017).
