Description

Circa 1885 Industrial Series Mechanical Clock Barometer. The Industrial Revolution not only spawned factories, but was reflected in the decorative arts. This combination clock and barometer is in the form of a boiler or steam engine. A flywheel, pair of pistons and governor go into motion when separately wound. Most of these novelty clocks are attributed to Guilmet of Paris. The dial of this model has the name of the retailer, A. Mucoli & Figlio of Palermo. The red granite base has three cracks. It appears to be complete and both the clock and mechanism winds, but neither works. Once it's repaired and cleaned of surface grime, it should "be ready to go to work" and quite the conversation piece.
