    Incantation Bowl
    Middle East.
    Ca. 5th century A.D.
    6-1/2"
    A Roman or later period bowl on small, flat base with flared walls and ribbed interior. Inscribed with old Aramaic text with incantation of protection or dedication. Bowls of this sort were found at the four-corners of the foundations of houses, inverted and sometimes stacked. Intact but script is somewhat faded and difficult to decipher.
