Early 17th Century Black & White Augsburg/Nurnberg Guild Three Quarter Suit of Armor with Gauntlets and Burgonet.
The black and white three quarter suit of armor with gorget, paldrons, lames, cuirass and greaves, together with accompanying pointed burgonet with brim and side ear panels. Nurnberg Guild armorer's mark on front and back plate. Sold with pair of original gauntlets. Suit is professionally mounted on a wooden plinth, ready to display. From the Martin Retting Collection. From the beginning of the sixteenth century, the style of armor called simply black and white was mostly used in a military context to distinguish officers from other ranks. Condition: Very good, showing age wear, light pitting, minor surface rust and dark patina. Some rivets replaced with bolts. Leather straps are replacements. Gauntlets are fair to good, with some broken or missing fingers. Requires 3rd Party Shipping.
