Description

La Danzon Inner Label Progressive Proof Book. A very rare, desirable, and interesting item showing the methodology involved in producing these detailed color lithographs- this particular one using eleven different color stones (including gold). Here are twenty-three 10" x 7" plates of the La Danzon label by Sprague, Warner & Company showing an exotically-attired girl dancing for several seated admirers in a far-off land. These are all bound loosely by string inside a paper wrap. The first is a completed printer's proof. Following generally are two prints from each stone, one in the proper color and one in black to show detail. There is one combination proof showing the yellow, red, light brown, and dark brown colors together. Some have penciled notations. Cover a bit tattered but proofs are generally fine.

As only a few (at maximum) of these books were ever produced for any label, they are scarce indeed. One with this many colors and proofs demands the attention of any serious collector.
