Description

Gloria Mundi Inner Proof Cigar Label by the American Lithographic Co., Copyright 1898. An eleven-color lithographed 10" x 7" inner proof label rife with patriotic symbolism. The central image is of lady Columbia and her British counterpart Britannia seated in the unique vestments and surrounded by the symbols of their various countries. At their feet the American eagle and British lion act as guards. In the background can be seen an American and British battleship. A beautifully colorful image with superb imagery from this rather jingoistic period in history. This label derives its name from the Latin phrase "Sic transit gloria mundi" or "Thus passes the glory of the world". This label has been encapsulated and graded VF 6 by GCLGS. From the Richard Revolinski Collection.
